Introduction:
People with diabetes are far more likely to have a foot or leg amputated than other people. The problem? Many people with diabetes have artery disease, which reduces blood flow to the feet. Also, many people with diabetes have nerve disease, which reduces sensation. Together, these problems make it easy to get ulcers and infections that may lead to amputation. Most amputations are preventable with regular care and proper footware.
The Need:
A simple to use , inexpensive device that allow for easy access at viewing the plantar view of the foot , while checking for skin alterations in color and shape by a diabetic patient at home, comparing the results to previous results allowing for an early detection of the deterioration of the diabetic foot clinical condition, in order to reduce the risk for limb amputation.
The solution:
A device that will allow for an easy approach to the plantar view of the foot in order to examine carefully the skin condition and alert as early as possible for diabetic deterioration.
The product:
An easy to use law cost device in the form of a usual weigh-scale to be used at the home, that is used as such and as a scanner to scan the plantar view of the foot, recording and comparing changes in color and shape of the plantar aspect of the foot. At the same time the device can measure skin conductivity and elaborate the conjoint results to predict the foot clinical condition.
